ABOUT US
Have friends? do you want more?
Assalamu alaykum السلام عليكم! May peace be upon you
A Place where you can be yourself
Osaka Ibaraki Mosque, established in 2006, serves primarily as the central place for the Muslim brothers and sisters in Osaka and Kansai area to pray and perform other religious activities such as iftar and Taraweeh during Ramadan. We also have regular Saturday programs where lectures on the Qur’an, Hadith, Seerah, and fiqh, among other topics, are delivered by an Islamic scholar.
Another vital role of the Masjid is to spread the teachings of Islam in Japan. While we accept many visitors from non-Muslim Japanese who are interested in learning Islam, tens of Japanese have converted to Islam at this Masjid
Many people from diverse ethnicities and countries are involved in our activities, including, but not limited to, Arabs, Pakistanis, Africans, Bangladeshis, Indians, Indonesians, Malaysians as well as Japanese
At Saturday programs, these people prepare and provide dinners every week to share not only knowledge and teaching but also food and stories
History
Islamic Culture Foundation Osaka (ICFO)
Islamic culture center in Osaka (ICCO)
On 12th of December 2005, a company (chukan hojin) called Islamic Cultural Center Osaka (ICCO), was formed from the ICFO. An agreement to buy the house and land property for 32 million yen was signed. At that moment, the balance of donations was 14 million yen, leaving the ICCO committee and Osaka Muslim Association (OMA) to raise the outstanding amount of money by 31st of March 2006. With the help of Muslim Student Association Japan (MSAJ), emissaries were sent to various locations in Japan, and collection boxes were filled by the generous hands of the Muslim people in Japan. May Allah grow their rewards in Paradise. Praise to Allah, after the contract was completed on the morning of Friday, 31st of March 2006, there was enough money to pay for the property, and there is even some left to build a wudhu area and extra toilets. The opening ceremony was held on the Saturday evening of 22nd of April 2006.
Muslim Community in Osaka
Osaka is the second biggest metropolitan city in Japan with 8.8 million population. It is renowned for its business, industries, and universities. So, it’s no wonder that many foreigners from all over the world, including muslims, live in Osaka.
Osaka Ibaraki Masjid is the only mosque located in north part of Osaka prefecture. Located in Ibaraki city, our masjid is very close to Osaka University, which is among the biggest universities in Japan with more than 2000 international students. Our masjid is also close to the Ibaraki campus of Ritsumeikan University and some Japanese companies (such as Daihatsu and Torishima Pump).
Osaka Ibaraki Masjid has been the center for religious activities for students and workers living around the area. Our muslim community is truly diverse, including the Arabs, Bangladeshis, Indians, Indonesians, Malaysians, Japanese and many others. A majority of them are students and researchers studying at nearby universities, while the others work at Japanese companies or run their own businesses in Japan. There are also some Japanese converts who made shahadah at this very Masjid. Our community is steadily expanding ever since the establishment of the Masjid.
Masjid importance
Masjid is vital for every muslim. Apart from being a place for congregational prayers, it is the place where we can drop all worries and fears, disconnect with the worldly life and connect with God. We can meet, talk, chat, and share knowledge with other muslims—a very important need especially when you are minority. Masjid is also a center to learn Islamic knowledge, strengthen the relation between muslims, and to boost the faith for facing the challenges ahead. Especially for muslim families, the masjid is essential for the children to meet and interact with other muslim childrens and learn together about the Quran and Islam.
COVID-19 Impact
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Osaka masjid has modified its activity substantially; for example, the Saturday program is primarily held online, lectures are recorded and streamed on Youtube, Facebook, etc. In Ramadan, Short advice and lessons are prepared. Check the masjid Facebook page and Youtube channel to access these lectures and activities.
